What's the Difference between banners and tapestries?
Banners are typically shaped as a flag or shield and display a bold graphic statement that symbolizes a person's allegiance or beliefs.
Tapestries can be larger, more elaborate versions of banners but usually contain a scene or vignette. This can illustrate a story, commemorate an event or just be a pretty picture.

About your banner
Most banners are sent with a basic edge. For an
extra charge, we can finish the edge with quilt binding
in a coordinating color. Should you need to attach
your own trim, ask about having the edges simply
serged.
Care of your Banners
1. Never tumble dry your banners. We use a heat set
plastisol ink which may react badly in your hot dryer.
Line drying is best.
We have successfully washed our banners in cold
water on a very gentle cycle. Should you need to do
this, wash them separately and rinse your machine
afterwards. Normally, a gentle wipe down with a
damp cloth is all that is needed to clean the banners,
and is the cleaning method we recommend.
2. The plastisol inks are heavily pigmented and dark
fabric colors may run. While we have not had a
problem to date, we caution about excess rubbing
against the banners. This is particularly in situations
of gripping the banner tightly, rubbing the design and
wiping hands on clothing, and packing, storing or
folding anything with the banner, especially if it's wet.
3. To simply get the wrinkles out, lay banner on a flat
surface such as an ironing board and use a piece of
baker's parchment between the banner and your iron.
Iron using smooth quick strokes and never leave your
iron in one spot too long. Depending on your fabric
type, it should be okay to use steam.
In an emergency, you can use wax paper, but the
parchment is best. If an ironing board is not available,
protect your surface by placing pieces of parchment,
wax paper or even cardboard or paper between the
banner and surface top.
The heat from the iron can cause the design to melt a
bit if the iron is held in place too long. On thinner
fabrics, it is possible the paint may bleed through and
cause sticking to the surface or even staining.
4. Canvas banners are quite rugged and can
withstand heavy outdoor use. Decorative banners
should be used in protective environments if possible.
Remove all banners in case of severe bad weather.

Canvas and flag cloth are both rugged enough for outdoor use. Canvas has a matte finish, can be made with a frayed edge effect, is generally thick enough to block light and is good for a more historically accurate banner. Flag cloth is lightweight, stain resistant, has a sheen finish similar to silk, is rip resistant and has vibrant colors. Broadcloth is very thin with a matte finish, is lightweight, and has bright colors. Backing material for other banners will be made from broadcloth.
